With growing demand for more housing—and for housing that is more affordable, climate-resilient and energy-efficient—now is an important moment to work alongside the construction industry to advance low-carbon building practices.
LC3 Centres across the country are leveraging strong, long-standing industry relationships to scale solutions, share knowledge and support innovation. They are working to empower builders, developers and trades professionals through training, streamlined municipal permitting, technology demonstrations and even direct impact investments in emerging low-carbon construction companies.
Industry partnerships in action
Alberta Ecotrust’s Emissions-Neutral Buildings Information Exchange (ENBIX) is advancing hands-on training by developing high-performance wall assemblies and integrating them into capacity-building programs across Alberta. It is also expanding formal training opportunities through partnerships with the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), helping strengthen the workforce for low-carbon construction.
Metro Vancouver’s Zero Emissions Innovation Centre (ZEIC) contributes by curating a wide range of practical learning tools, supporting industry capacity building—including webinars, case studies, newsletters, podcasts and videos—that highlight real-world performance and emerging best practices in low-carbon design and construction.
In the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) is supporting rapid adoption of industrialized, low carbon‑carbon building solutions. Its investment in Assembly Corp is helping accelerate prefabricated housing supply, while its work with several municipalities is improving permitting and approvals for industrialized construction projects.

Convening leaders and build sector capacity
One of LC3’s most powerful roles is bringing construction industry leaders together to strengthen skills, share insights and coordinate action:
- Alberta Ecotrust’s ENBIX continues to mobilize knowledge and support collaboration across the entire building sector, helping prepare the market for higher performance standards.
- TAF is a founding member of the Canadian Industrialized Construction Coalition, an industry-led alliance amplifying the voice of Canada’s factory-built construction supply chain.
- ZEIC serves as the secretariat to the Building to Electrification Coalition (B2E), a provincial network advancing heat pump adoption and electrified heating and hot water systems.
- To address the critical issue of workforce capacity, ZEIC has launched the Sustainable Workforce Coalition, uniting more than 40 business, labour, Indigenous, education, community and government organizations to prepare workers for success in Canada’s clean economy transition.

By working closely with industry partners and focusing on collaboration, capacity building and real-world implementation, LC3 Centres are helping strengthen the construction sector’s readiness to build a cleaner, more resilient future.
